News & Frequently Asked Questions
A while back, Bishop was in the news over a church lease and then a related recall petition. what was that about and does it have anything to do with the challengers?
Yes, indeed, there was quite a bit of chaos in our sleepy little town earlier this year! Rather than go into all of the details and how each of the opposing candidates and Councilwoman Mindy Porterfield are involved, we feel you should read and decide for yourself. The Oconee Enterprise did a good job of covering the events. Please read their articles by clicking the links below.

What is going on with hudson holder? I heard he was disqualified.
Yes, the same group that’s running in opposition brought a challenge to the board of elections on Hudson’s eligibility. The board of elections did disqualify him “against the advice of the town attorney.” You can read Lee Becker’s reporting on it here: Oconee Observations. In addition, the Oconee Enterprise wrote an OpEd titled “Elections Board erred in ruling Bishop incumbent was ineligible to run” in the Oct 2 edition (we will try to get that article for you and link it here).
We are angered and disappointed by the board of election’s decision. According to several attorneys, an appeal by Hudson would have been successful, but those same attorneys said it would cost $40-50K by the end, so we understand IF the Holders decide not to do so.
If you have any questions, please let us know so we can get you in touch with Hudson, Drew Kurtz or one of the other sitting councilmembers. We must elect Kurtz, Hadden, Lucas and Davis…and Holder if he can get the appeal done in time!

how do i know if i’m registered to vote for bishop council?
Visit http://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/ and enter your information including County and Date of Birth. Then on the My Information page, click the link to “View My Precinct Card”. If your City Council voting district says “LRG-BISHOP”, you are eligible to vote in the Bishop Municipal Election.
You can also register to vote, find your polling place and get information on early voting at the My Voter Page site.
Where do the candidates stand on the 441 by-pass?
Our candidates have spent a lot of time building relationships with GDOT and representatives like Marcus Weidower. While no “new” plan has been decided, it sounds like everyone is in agreement that it should start way down south of town and push way out to the east. They are all dedicated to protecting our historic areas along 441 and know the importance of getting truck traffic out of our quiet town. If another group gets voted in, this progress will be halted, so it’s very important to VOTE for Kurtz, Haddend, Holder, Lucas and Davis!
who is behind this website and the save bishop campaign?
A group a citizens who have seen the major improvements over the last few years and don’t want a change in leadership which would in turn halt the good things happening. If you’d like to join us, please reach out via the Contact page
What People Are Saying
“I’ve been a proud resident of bishop since 2005, and I’m so grateful to raise my family here - my parents moved here too! I’m so grateful to Kurtz, hadden, holder and lucas for the sidewalk grants, for working alongside GDOT to lower the speed limit and for their preservation and celebration of our historic town. because of them our town has become vastly more welcoming and safe.”
— Lisa Ferguson, resident and Chairperson, Bishop Engagement Committee
“We love our town of Bishop. And we need a person like Jeff Davis to help us preserve our community. Jeff and his family are the most genuine people that you will ever meet.”
— Brian and Christa John
“The City Council has been a tremendous support in the opening and continued success of my insurance office in Bishop. Through the council's guidance and true interest in the businesses and people that work and live in Bishop, you can tell they're a group that truly values the unique role they have in the continued development of our community. It's the passion and care they have for the Town of Bishop that makes me excited to continue doing business here. So many projects are moving forward that have been stagnant for years. New speed limits, new road signage, new sidewalks, new landscaping, and a ton of revitalization all over town. This community is starting to thrive again thanks to the current leadership."
— Bret Huett, Country Financial Insurance
“Under the leadership of Mayor Kurtz, Deborah Lucas, Hudson Holder, And Chuck Hadden, Bishop is now on the map as a cool place to live. Thanks to the festivals, light the lights, the expanded farmer’s market, and the Community Center revitalization project, G-dot is starting to take notice that we are indeed a town of growth and vitality. Mindy Porterfield has voted against almost every measure for growth and expansion, wanting to keep Bishop in a spiral of stagnation. This is not what we need. Vote for Drew, Chuck, Hudson, Deborah and Jeff!”
— Dallas Bono, Bishop Resident
